Built from the number of bays and players per bay each venue publishes. Where we multiply the two, that’s our own sum of the most a venue could take with every bay full, not a figure from the venue. Venues in the bigger bands can take smaller groups too. Ask the venue what works for your group.
RUFF Golf Heanor (5 bays), Nineteen Golf Club (4 bays), The Old Drive (2 bays), Newark Golf Club Simulators (2 bays), RUFF Golf Nottingham (5 bays) and Swings Golf (5 bays) don’t publish how many players fit in a bay, so we haven’t worked out a total. Eagle Bay also runs Christmas nights for up to 12 at its S3 Padel site in Derby city centre, which we don’t list separately; see below.

The Christmas offer is at S3 Padel in the Eagle Market (Derbion, Derby city centre), a separate Eagle Bay site we don't list as its own guide: up to 6 players per golf bay, 12 across two bays, a licensed bar (no bringing your own food or drink), padel, interactive darts and shuffleboard, and a closest-to-the-pin or team competition with a trophy for the winner. Bigger groups can book in waves. The Darley Abbey Mills site we list is the private option: self-serve bays, bring your own drinks, groups of up to 8 across two bays, or hire the whole venue.

How to plan it: a checklist
General advice for any venue, not claims about a particular one.
- Book early. Bays are limited, and December evenings fill first. Have two or three dates in mind.
- Get a headcount, then ask about bays. Ask how many players the venue recommends per bay. Fewer per bay means more turns each.
- Ask what’s included. Golf time, drinks, food and club hire are sometimes bundled and sometimes extra.
- Ask about food. Some venues have a kitchen, some offer sharing platters, some let you bring your own and some don’t allow it.
- Ask about a private room or the whole venue if you want your group on its own.
- Left-handers: ask whether left-handed clubs are available, or ask them to bring their own.
- Beginners welcome: ask for fun formats such as closest to the pin, longest drive or a team scramble, so non-golfers aren’t left out.
- Check deposits, cancellation terms and finish times, and how everyone is getting home.
Questions people ask
Do people need to be able to play golf?
No. Simulator bays run games such as closest to the pin and longest drive alongside full rounds, so beginners can join in. If most of your group are new to it, ask the venue to suggest a format that keeps things moving.
Is it priced per person or per bay?
It varies. Some venues charge for the bay by the hour, some per player, and Christmas packages are often per person with a minimum number of guests. Check what is included (golf time, drinks, food, club hire) before comparing.
How far ahead should we book a Christmas party?
As early as you can. Bays are limited, and December evenings tend to go first. Ask about deposits and cancellation terms when you book.
Do we need to bring golf clubs?
Not usually, but check. Some venues provide clubs free, some charge for hire, and some expect you to bring your own. If anyone in your group is left-handed, ask whether left-handed clubs are available.
