Forest Hill SIM X golf simulator in Botcheston

Forest Hill Golf Club sits on Markfield Lane at Botcheston, out in the countryside west of Leicester, and its SIM X room gives the club a lively indoor side. There are three TrackMan simulator bays, set out in what the club describes as a sports-bar atmosphere, so this is a place for a proper night out as much as a practice session.

TrackMan is one of the best-known names in golf technology, and the bays let you play virtual rounds or work on your game whatever the weather is doing outside. Because it is part of a working golf club, there is more around it than many indoor venues can offer: a restaurant, a lounge bar and a driving range are all on the same site.

The pricing rewards a weekday visit. The standard non-member rate is £40 for an hour, but at the time of writing the club is running offers of half price on weekdays between 10am and 3pm, and a quarter off in the evenings and at weekends. Bear in mind that the club's terms add a £10 guest fee for each guest on every booking, so it is worth checking the total when you book online.

For families there are packages for two adults and two children that bundle simulator time with pizza and chips and drinks, from £70 for an hour. Groups of four or more have their own rate, from £25 a person for an hour, which makes it a sensible choice for a work social or a team-building day. Regulars can take a monthly membership.

Under-18s are welcome with an adult. The SIM X room is open from midday on Mondays to Thursdays and from 10am Fridays to Sundays, until 10pm every day. Bookings are made online in 30-minute slots, or you can ring the club. If you like the idea of a golf night with a bar and a kitchen close at hand, this one is well worth a look.
